Inside the Neon Dungeon Heroes studio

Who we are

A five-person crew that ships, not slides.

Founded in 2016 above a record shop on Foveaux Street, Neon Dungeon Heroes is an independent studio of designers, coders and illustrators. We've shipped three titles to Steam and run monthly playtest nights for the Sydney indie scene.

We keep teams deliberately small so every pixel, rule and line of dialogue gets a maker's attention. No outsourced factories — just people who actually finish their campaigns.

How we work

From napkin sketch to launch build.

  1. 1

    Discovery jam

A two-week paid sprint where we prototype the core loop and pin down the pillars before a dollar of production is spent.

  2. 2

    Vertical slice

One polished level or scenario that proves the art, feel and tech all sing together, delivered in 6–8 weeks.

  3. 3

    Production

Fortnightly builds you can actually play, with open Trello boards and a standing Friday review call.

  4. 4

    Launch & live

Store setup, launch trailer cut and a 90-day post-release patch window so day-one bugs never linger.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions.

Working together

How much does a full game cost to build?+

It depends on scope, but most of our client titles land between AUD $45,000 and $220,000. We always start with a paid two-week discovery jam (from AUD $4,800) so you get a firm quote and a playable prototype before committing to production.

Do you work with clients outside Sydney?+

Absolutely. Roughly half our clients are interstate or overseas and we run everything over shared boards and weekly calls. Local studios are welcome to visit the Foveaux Street loft on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Ownership & delivery

Who owns the finished game and source files?+

You do. On final payment you receive full source, art files and build pipelines with no strings attached. We only ask to feature the finished work in our portfolio, and even that is negotiable under NDA.

What engines and tools do you use?+

Mostly Unity and Godot for video games, plus Tabletop Simulator and print-ready InDesign layouts for board and card games. If you have an existing codebase we're happy to pick it up rather than starting fresh.

Getting started

How soon can you start a new project?+

Discovery jams usually kick off within two to three weeks of a signed brief. Full production slots book out a couple of months ahead, so the earlier you reach out the better we can hold a window for you.
